Michael S. Marcin, MD, MSCR

Dr. Marcin is double-board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His major clinical interest is in children struggling with speech, language, social, and emotional difficulties such as those associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders. He has served as Program Chair for the Oregon Council on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (OCCAP) and has been an active member in statewide initiatives, including the Committee for Collaboration between Pediatrics and Child Psychiatry in Oregon, and the Collaborative Problem Solving Implementation Committee. His interest in development and associated deficits has enriched his belief that evidence-based treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Collaborative Problem Solving, can be quite effective in his patient population of interest: children struggling with social-emotional-cognitive disorders. While autism and Asperger’s disorders are clearly in the realm of his expertise, he feels strongly that even more common illnesses like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, anxiety disorders (such as obsessive compulsive disorder), and mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder) are associated with significant and sometimes profound social-emotional-cognitive deficits that are often overlooked.

In addition to his Medical Doctorate, Dr. Marcin’s training included a combined seven-year clinical and research residency-fellowship and a Master’s of Science in Clinical Research from Emory University School of Medicine, where he was also the Chief Resident. He is the recipient of national and international honors from the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), Emory University School of Medicine and has published his research in leading international journals.
